Heh, ok, you guys are probably going to be disappointed in me.

So as I said before, Stacia and I have been on speaking terms again. We haven't hung out much- she's been getting gigs and after she moved out, I widened my social circle to compensate for her absence. I can drive myself crazy, alone in this room. I don't want to spend all my time dwelling on my personality deficiencies and mortality.

Anyhoo, long story short, Stacia will be- not moving back in or anything, just sort of hanging out and sleeping here for a little bit. Like a month...

I know, I know, full me a thousand times, shame on me... But I think I have a clearer picture of the situation now. At the least, I think it will be interesting.

Being a true geek, I photographed the unboxing of my newest, most expensive possession. Unwrapping each cable was an intricate ritual. I saved the best for last, unwrapping the impossibly light aluminum monolith almost obscenely.

I put it on the desk in front of me, almost afraid to touch it, marring the beauty like a five year old stomping through freshly fallen snow.

But this pinnacle of technological design feeds off of love, so I carressed the lid, feeling the cool metal beneath my fingers before snapping another picture.

My MacBook Pro had arrived.

Of course, I soon got down to the business of using this Divine Device, copying some data over, installing a few programs. The Apple advertising department was spot on- the thing Just Works. And ooohhhhhh, this thing is a dream to type on- it's like each key is a puffy storm cloud.

I had barely had time to play with it before the boss came into the office, where he spent the next four hours with me, having me sift through hundreds of digital pictures from his camera.

A friend and fellow member of his Club (Think 'Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo's' from 'The Flintstones') had passed away awhile ago, and he wanted to find all the pics of him for an anniversary tribute. It all made perfect sense. Organize photos, and touch em' up a bit? iPhoto!

After that was taken care of, he wanted to know if I could make some sort of Slideshow out of it. I used the included remote control to activate Front Room, went to Pictures, and Boom- instant slideshow, with music to boot. I toyed around with it and got it to play "I will remember you" by Sara Mclaughlin

So after that, he gave me twenty minutes to get ready for a fancy dinner party at the Club, where I used a DVI cable I had lying around to hook it up and play the Slideshow on a TV. Big hit, and I got a free gourmet dinner for my 'troubles'. And there was an open bar! I even chatted a bit with a cute waitress.

Yeah, I could have done the same thing with my old PC. But it's like this is what the Mac was BUILT for. It felt like I partook in fulfilling this machine's DESTINY, a destiny that would shape humanity for eons to come!

Well, maybe that's a little crazy- such is the Gift and 'Curse' of being a Mac Owner.

It's not all roses, of course. I get the internet in my room thanks to a PCMCIA Sprint broadband card. The PCMCIA slot is old tech, so the MacBook comes equipped with the newer ExpressCard slot that's smaller, faster, and incompatible with older cards.

It's very new. So new, there's not that many cards for it yet. The closest solution at the moment is a USB version that I could 'upgrade' too, but since I haven't quite had my broadband card for a year yet, I'd have to pay a premium for it. Plus Apple hasn't released any drivers for it, so I'd have to go third party.

I'm looking into other solutions. There are tons of wireless signals around, all with WEP keys (Passworded, basically). So, maybe I can sweet talk someone into letting me into their little network.

There are illegal alternatives, of course, but I'd never do anything like that.

'Till than, I'm satisfied to just learn the ins and outs of OS X. I'm learning a lot of keyboard shortcuts, and even venturing into the Terminal thanks to some nicely written tutorials.

This was money well spent, I believe.

And this thing is so freakin' quiet. My old laptop is like a leaf blower by comparison.

K, enough Mac zealotry for now. There's actually some non-Apple related stuff going on in my life, but I'll save that for next entry since I'm sure everyone has stopped reading by now.

Hey, my link made it in a blog that was mentioned in the newest issue of Wired Magazine. I'm famous!

Brass Goggles

P.S. HAHAHAHAHA, let me clarify. I don't mean 'MY' link, just a link to another site that I submitted. It's a steampunk website- no need to beat em' with the Tranny stick.

Well, I'm about ten years too late, but I finally got around to adding a Google Search bar to the site. And it works, too!

First off, watch all the episodes of 'The Burg', and then take to the streets for a rousing game of 'Hip or Dangerous'.

Well Hurricane Isabel has come and gone, leaving us without power. No water either, since it's wellwater and the pumps are electric.

It seems the power's back on everywhere else though, so finding a working computer was an easy task. It's a Mac, though. Bleh. (No offense)

Oh, Past Me- how little ye knew...

'Ana'....Screw it. I love her name too much. STACIA called me again and we tentatively made some plans to hang out next week. Just to give her her mail, of course. And, who knows...

Yes, I am mentally disturbed.

Over the holidays I got a surprise text message from 'The Cold Fish', 'Staci', saying we should get together sometime. Guess she got dumped and was feeling lonely. But who am I not to prey on the lonely and heartbroken?

Ha. I kid. She's probably leading a wonderful life. Anyway, I wanted to go drinking (of course) but she's only working night shifts next week, so I suggested the California Academy of Science. Soooo dorky, but I've always wanted to go.

Maybe I'll go to MacWorld next year.

Today was actually a somewhat good day at work. Well, it still sucked the life out of me. It was after I was technically off, when I had come back to deal with the usually problems: Staff sexually harassing guests, said guest threatening to get baseball bat, other guests upset about some of the hotels policy, and yet more guests trying to weasel out of paying rent.

I walked in, confronted by a mob of unhappy people, and I got down to business. I was in some sort of zone, where I can't really remember what I said, but whatever it was, everyone walked away somewhat satisfied (until the next time.) It felt like being a politician, or something.

And then the guy working the desk, the one twice my age, sincerely thanked me for being there to take care of all that.

So, a small part of me thought that just maybe, another small part of me was actually good at this job, at interacting with people, despite what the naysayers would say to the contrary.

Boy, have I changed in the last couple of years. It's almost depressing. And on top of that, I'm turning 24 in a couple of weeks.

God help me when I'm 30.

UPS tells me through the magic of computer automation that my Machine will be here on Tuesday.

I'm spending the last few days B.M. (before Mac) transferring data to my external drive, getting ready to ship this old girl to it's new home with my Mom. I want to be thorough- I'd hate for her and my sisters to stumble across a bit of pR0n.

My first computer was a Macintosh. I still remember the day when dad brought it home. Now that I think about, I wonder how he got it- they were $2500 at the time.

Dad was a big admirer of Steve Jobs, and after reading and watching the "Behind the Scenes" stuff about the guy, him and Dad are actually alot alike, from what I can tell. Well, without the whole CEO and Wealth status.

So, what else is happening? Well, 'Ana', my ex-roommate I had to boot out last month, gave me a call. She wanted to pick up her mail, but we ended up getting lunch instead. There was some mumbling on her end, about how she wanted to call me on Christmas and New Years, but didn't want to talk to people that would say stuff like that about her.

As a reminder for you, gentle reader, I said that she was completely Toxic for me.

Which is understandable. I just let her talk until the subject was changed. No need to try and smooth things out. That's how I felt, how I feel, and I'm sticking to it.

I also got a call from that TG girl I was seeing. We kind of fell out of touch, but it's the kind where occasionally we'll make plans to get together, but something unavoidable will come up.

I didn't feel much romantic connection, but I do think she'd make a good person to hang out with. It's nice to occasionally be around someone even more spacey than myself.

Anyhoo, so that's what I've been up to. Deleting pR0n.

OOooooooooOOOOooOOOoooohhhhhhhhh, I'm shaking right now.

I just made the leap and gave into the overwhelming desire by purchasing a MacBook Pro. Since I'll be selling the laptop I'm using now, the difference works out to only a few hundred $'s.

Eesh, that iPod is like a gateway drug.

I feel like my brain has been taken over by some parasite. I remember scoffing at Macs, saying I'd never buy an iPod. But now I've been going to the Apple Store almost everday, playing around with the machines there. I'm reading all the Mac blogs and even the magazines.

Little by little, I've found that I'm now completly disgusted with Microsoft and Windows.

The Zune? "Welcome to the Social"? WTF is that?!

Vista?! Don't get me started!

Gaming always influenced my buying decisions when it came to computers, but I realized I haven't played anything in months now.

So, what else is there to say? I'm a Switcher. My shirt is in the mail. (Along with this one.)

See you on the other side!

Whew, it's been a busy than usual day here at work, with the carpet cleaners is and all the rooms being inspected and repaired.

Whenever I had a free moment though, I found myself constantly refreshing Engadgets MacWorld 2007 coverage.

I know what I'll be picking up in June...

1/08/2007

Wow, iTunes is addicting. I wasted a whole afternoon previewing songs, following links... When all was said and done, I think I dropped another $20 or so.

Actually paying for Music, I feel like my karma got a nudge towards the light side. Course, I can't see myself buying any TV shows, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Laser Hair Removal is billed as Permanent Hair Reduction. As my facial hair was slight, Laser was recommended over electrolysis. It's worked out good, but I think I could use a touch-up, so I'm scheduling an appointment for this month.

Ugh, body hair. I sort of got spared in that department. I take after my Dad (or my Mom) in that I never had any chest or back hair to worry about. I am covered with soft peach fur, but, being asian, it's pretty dark.

I used to use Nair for awhile, but I've found bleaching to be the best option. It's a pain, having to mix the stuff up and coat my upper body every few weeks, but that's the cost of beauty, I guess.

I know alot of GG's have dark body hair, but it really bugs me.

As for my legs, I use an epilator. Waxing got to be too expensive.

So, now you know. After a couple of months on a deserted island I'd turn into a monster.

Now with 100% more Movement!

I borrowed a webcam from a friend and was doing some work, but I thought I'd record a quick wave. Heh, I also did a little dance, but I don't think I'll be showing that anytime soon.

A milestone has just occured:

I just bought my first album from iTunes!

Jeez, what have I become...?

P.S. "We Are Pilots" by Shiny Toy Guns

Ahhh, here I am back in Sunny California.

And it's freezing.

I miss the family, but it's good to be back. The suburbs start to wear me down after awhile.

Before I forget, here's a roughcut of a ZeroCreep music video, for anyone interested.

While I was in Florida, I came across my old, old, OLD digital camera, the one Dad got as a gift for being Top Sales Person back in 98' or something. It's what my early pics were taken with, a whole 1.3 megapixels. I think I like this one best. Jeez, those early pics are something else. Estrogen really can be a miracle worker.

Anyhoo, I'll do another pic update soon. I found some great poses online that I want to pay homage to. Like this one.

I came across that link from this site. Those goggles will be mine. Oh yes, they WILL be mine.
